On July 25, 2026, at the UCF High School, at 1:00 p.m., join other township residents for a portrayal of “Ned Hector,” an American Revolutionary War hero. Noah Lewis portrays Ned Hector and has presented him at numerous schools and community events. (www.nedhector.com)
Ned Hector was a free African American soldier who fought in the Revolutionary War and in the local Battle of Brandywine. “Hector is best known for his actions during the Battle of Brandywine, fought near present-day Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.
- During the battle, British forces overran American positions.
- As troops retreated, Hector refused to abandon his wagon loaded with ammunition.
- Under intense enemy fire, he managed to save the supplies and bring them to safety.
- His bravery reportedly prevented valuable munitions from falling into British hands.”
After the Revolutionary War hero portrayal, there will be a 30-40-minute “Dare to Declare” segment during which guest historians, local students, and community members will read the Declaration of Independence in its entirety, followed by an open discussion about America’s independence.
